The winter population of just under 1000 persons on Hornby Island swells in summer to 4000 or 5000, depending on whose estimate you prefer. Ferry loadings average 163 passengers in January and 755 in August. Where do they stay?

Bed and Breakfasts

Your best bet for a short stay.

We are not sure how many B&B rooms there are available on the island, but there are less than 10 advertising their presence by print or on the web. This is greatly short of the demand in July and August, and greatly in excess of the demand over the rest of the year. At least eight establishments have left the business, either because the properties have changed hands or because of lifestyle changes.

Waterfront locations are coveted, but scarce. At one time or another there have been four B&B's on waterfront property, but none of these are currently in operation for daily rentals in summer.

Unfortunately there is no longer a central registry for B&B bookings which we can refer you to. The web is now the major, or only, source of business for those B&B's which have websites. Following is a list of B&B's which have been in operation for several years. New facilities come and go.
